Lockheed believes it has found the cause of stability issues in the radar software for the F-35 that required the system to randomly reboot during operation.  Officials report that a software patch has increased the average interval between reboots from four hours to every ten hours.

Speaking at a hearing this past week, U.S. Senator John McCain, the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, told senior Pentagon officials that the F-35 program had "been a scandal and the cost overruns have been disgraceful," adding that "it's a textbook example of why this Committee has placed such a high priority on reforming the broken defense acquisition system."

Japan's X-2 Shinshin technology demonstrator flew for the first time this past week.  The X-2 is a sub-scale demonstrator, intended to learn-out key technologies for a possible future fighter program.
