The Defense Department's annual report on the progress of the F-35 program contends that the airplane's F135 engine has had "recurring manufacturing quality issues," reporting that quality defects  in "turbine blades and electronic control systems resulted in maintenance activity to remove suspect hardware from the operational fleet."

Officials from Lockheed and the Defense Department missed an end-of-March target for negotiating their next contract for F-35 fighter jets.  The negotiations have stalled over issues of price reductions demanded by the Pentagon, and profit margin increases demanded by Lockheed.

Russian officials have suggested that India's BrahMos supersonic cruise missile could potentially be installed on future versions of PAK-FA stealth fighters supplied to India. The announcement comes as Indian officials continue to debate India's involvement in the costly Russian development program.

France and Qatar have completed negotiations for the sale of 24 Dassault Rafale fighter jets.  Qatar made a down payment for the aircraft in December.
