Bombardier chairman Pierre Beaudoin has agreed to give up his executive duties, but would retain his post as chairman of the board. This compromise arrangement was announced in an attempt to diffuse recent calls for his resignation, made by the firm's largest outside shareholder. The recent calls for his resignation revolve around executive compensation, at a time when the company has been laying off workers and seeking government loans to balance its books. Beaudoin owes his special status to the dual-tier share system that allows Bombardier's founding family, of which Beaudoin is a member, to retain a voting majority in the company.
